A successful annual event at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in London : A debate “Heritage in the Heated World“
On Monday, 1st December 2025, we had the honour of welcoming partners and friends to the Embassy of the Czech Republic in London for CNT’s traditional annual event. The evening, entitled “ Heritage in the Heated World” was dedicated to a debate on how cultural heritage responds to global challenges, particularly climate change. Among the distinguished guests was Her Royal Highness Princess Dana Firas of Jordan, UNESCO Ambassador for Cultural Heritage, Chair of INTO (International National Trusts Organisation), and Chair of the Petra National Trust. She shared her insights from the COP30 conference in Brazil and reminded us that cultural heritage must be part of every climate discussion. Her reflections on turning commitments into action and integrating culture into climate strategies fully align with our own position and goals.
The event was supported by the presence of the new Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the United Kingdom, H.E. Václav Bartuška; Third Secretary Aneta Kovářová, who oversees cooperation with organisations in the UK; senior representatives of CzechTourism and the Czech Centre in London; and the leadership of INTO.
INTO Secretary-General Catherine Leonard not only contributed to the debate as one of the speakers but also brought with her several senior representatives of international national trusts, who went on to attend an INTO event in London the following day.
Cultural heritage preserves the shared memory of society and creates a lasting dialogue between nations. It connects people across time, offering continuity and space for cooperation. In times of environmental and social change, cultural heritage fosters resilience and reminds us that the preservation of heritage and stability go hand in hand. The evening brought together leaders from diplomacy, culture, heritage, and climate action, providing a platform for discussion on how cooperation through culture can strengthen understanding and support a sustainable future.
The event was also an opportunity to celebrate what CNT has achieved since its founding—from the restoration of historic monuments to the building of international partnerships – and to look ahead. As CNT Chair Dr Irena Edwards noted, CNT’s strength lies in our collaboration and in our belonging to a family of more than one hundred national trusts worldwide that are members of INTO.
Also inspiring was the contribution of Daniel Červenka, a new member of the CNT Board, whose remarks on cultural diplomacy highlighted the opportunities that arise when cultural heritage becomes a platform for dialogue.
The evening concluded with remarks by Catherine Leonard, who reminded us that cultural heritage lies at the heart of today’s challenges and called on everyone to “stay engaged and support CNT’s projects, share your expertise, and help expand its network of friends and advocates.”
We extend our thanks to the Embassy of the Czech Republic – especially, H.E. Václav Bartuška for their personal support, to our sponsors CzechTourism and Budvar, to our partners, and to everyone who joined us. Together, we can turn inspiration into action.
