Restoration of the historic greenhouse in the area of the Tomb of Marie Ebner-Eschenbach
The Czech National Trust has been gradually restoring the area of the tomb of Marie Ebner-Eschenbach in Zdislavice since 2016. This pilot project has faced extraordinary challenges in recent years, from the Covid pandemic to the sharp increase in construction costs to high inflation. Nevertheless, thanks to the continued efforts of volunteers and the trust of donors, the chapel has been saved and reopened to the public.
The next step in the long-term restoration is the revitalisation of the historic greenhouse in the foreground of the monument. Currently, the site lacks a tourist information centre that would systematically inform and educate local residents and visitors about the historical and cultural value of the monuments and its immediate surroundings, or about other tourist attractions in the region. The restored greenhouse will create a facility for visitors and volunteers and offer space for an information centre, a multifunctional space for community and educational events. Thanks to the installation of solar panels, partial energy self-sufficiency will be provided for the entire area.
The project aims to develop public tourism infrastructure serving visitors and residents with an emphasis on recreational and leisure use and the creation of a vibrant centre that connects cultural heritage, community life and modern sustainable solutions. The restoration relies on the cooperation of local residents, volunteers and donors.
Restoration work has already begun and the project is currently in the phase of implementing the foundation structures. In order to continue the restoration of the historic greenhouse smoothly and complete the next stages, the project continues to depend on the support of donors. The Czech National Trust’s mission is to bring new meaning to old values, and thanks to this restoration, Zdislavice can become a sought-after tourist destination and a centre of social activities for the region.
The project is implemented with financial support from the European Union.
